First of all I would like to take a look at the precious cover of this book; it has so many details of the story inside hidden in a beautiful collage, that you will not see all of them till you’ve read all the story; a story that I couldn’t stop reading, addictive and beautiful that will be in your heart forever.
I will have to admit that I am a little biased with this book, I simply entered in it because I loved the cover and I wanted to know more, I didn’t know anything about the plot, and I finished it with just one day! This is one of the best things of being a blogger, discovering books that maybe I would have not noticed in a bookshop. I will be talking about it for a long time, really, it will be on my top ten this year, for sure!
This is the story of Fleetwood Shuttleworth and Alice Gray, how their lives become bound in a moment in history where being a woman and have your own personality could be dangerous, you could be called a witch…
This is the first time I’ve read a book about the famous “witch trials”, and even if the book is not totally centred on them, we can read enough to feel the claustrophobic atmosphere on the story and make the lives of Fletwood and Alice in danger.
Alice is so young, only 17, but she has been already married 2 times and lost 3 babies in this short time… She doesn’t know who to trust with her feelings and fears and she will see in Alice a friend and a confident. Their story will be full of emotion and braveness, confessions and fears, will change their life forever, making this story precious and delicate, a story to remember.
What surprised me most is that the story is based on real characters, they didn’t have any “real” connection between them that we are aware of, but they lived.
The Familiars is an amazing read, to savour every page! Ready?
