Off we venture to old time Lancashire, and meet Fleetwood Shuttleworth, Lady of Gawthorpe Manor, Fleetwood is considered a child bride and is only 17 when she’s married to Richard. She only seems to feel at home by his side.

She comes across some correspondence, not meant for her prying eyes, she believes the fate of herself and unborn child is not in her favour.

She enlists the help of a local ‘wise’ midwife, going by the name of Alice, the two become unlikely friends, that is, until the witch trials separate the two.

Fleetwood strongly believes Alice had no part in the Witchcraft that is causing havoc amongst the townsfolk and will do all she can to release Alice from this web of lies, the road to Alice’s freedom is tough, and those closest to Fleetwood don’t think Alice is worth the fight.

This book had me hooked! It was a wonderful page turner with twists and turns in every chapter. A delight.
