Can we just start with a 'oh my, what a stunning cover?' Some are lucky enough to have blue sprayed edges too, and boy does it compliment the cover!

Of course, a cover is nothing if the book is bad, and 'The Familiars' does not disappoint! Witches, pregnancy, class battles - this book has it all. Fleetwood is pregnant and is so desperate to keep her husbands love and her child after suffering so many miscarriages. The only nurse who can help her is Alice, and she is not quite who she seems.

This book gave me Rebecca vibes, its gothic and mysterious, yet carries all the regalities of Downton Abbey and Jane Austen. You'd like this book if you enjoy gothic, witchy novels, but also if you love a bit of feminist history!
