What an amazing first three chapters! Each one of the characters seemed to leap, fully-formed, from the pages. I feel I can already understand why Ada is so resolved to distance herself from the life she faced after her father died ... "This is not my place, these are not my people. This is not my real life." ... as well as her absolute determination to be accepted by the 'sophisticated, cultured and privileged' group of people with whom she'll exploring the art history of Italy.
It's already clear that Ada's personality is complex and I look forward to getting to know her better (if I'm lucky in the draw!) and discover what lengths she'll be prepared to go to to achieve her dream of belonging. It's clear that the story will become much darker - quite how this will happen is yet to be revealed but, from the quality of the writing so far, I'm sure the developing story will be multi-layered, tension-filled and engrossing ... will I be able to bear to put it down once I start it, especially as I know Venice, Florence and Rome and would love to 're-visit' them through the pages of this story!
