Although Laura Vaughan has written several books for children and young adults, 'The Favour' is her valiant debut novel for adults. Combining the concepts of teenage lose and the coming of age for18 year old Ada Howell, the character seems to represent the author's transition to adult fiction.

The cultural life that Ada experiences, by way of her wealthy godmother, introduces both her and the reader to the historical beauty of Italy as she tries to fit in with and aspire to be like these people who appear to have everything. Then the twist comes when a murder occurs, and the mystery and the cracks of these 'perfect people' both start to show.

Insightful, exciting and a great debut as an adult writer. Vaughan's sophisticated writing makes me want to read on and find out what happens, and I look forward to further adult novels from this talented writer.
