A Slow Burn
This book is all about how far you would go to fit in with people you normally wouldn't have associated with - so the story follows Ada Howell who lost her father at a young age, along with the house and the life she thought she was going to lead. At eighteen, she is now given an opportunity of a lifetime - an extravagant art history trip to Italy. She does everything she can to fit in with the group she is travelling with, and when a member of the group dies, she seizes an opportunity to bind herself to them permanently.
I did quite enjoy The Favour and thought it was a decent enough read, but it was quite the slow burn - especially the first half where I thought it took ages for anything to really happen. I didn't particularly find any of the characters likeable and neither did I really relate to any of them. I thought this was going to be more of a thriller so I did feel a little let down - there were a fair few clever twists though and I hadn't predicted the ending. I think anyone who enjoys reading about art history may well appreciate this a lot more than I did, but all in all I enjoyed the book, it's just not one I feel I'll particularly remember.
