Ada is 18 and embarks on an extravagant gap year trip in Italy. An eight week guided art history trip with a group of young privileged people. Ada needs this trip as since losing her father when she was 13 and moving with her mothers away from her fathers ancestral home she does not feel she belongs anywhere.
Ada meets a group of young people and strives to make herself part of their group and feel as wealthy and sophisticated as the others.
However tragedy strikes on the last day of the trip and one of the group dies suspiciously. Trying to protect who she feels caused the death, Ada integrates herself in the life of 2 of the group, causing her life to go in the direction she has always wished.
12 years later she is invited back to Italy as a memorial by the family of the dead girl. This starts a series of events as an investigation is also ongoing into the death.
This book was very well written and I really enjoyed it. Ada the main character is a confused individual and at times I did not like her while at others I felt sorry for her.
The story unravels bit by bit and leads to an unexpected ending.
