When I wrote my first impressions I wasn't sure about this book. The characters were privileged and I thought they may be a bit stereotypical . The characters were but they were well formed and I was wrong about the book. I can't say I liked any of the characters but I suppose that was the point. They all had their flaws but Ada the main character was loathsome. To scheme like that was masterful and she was so brilliantly sly. A lead character driven to do what she did by feelings of jealousy and of entitlement. Set mainly in Venice I could imagine the beautiful blue skies and warmth of Italy as the backdrop for the events which unfolded during their stay.
I couldn't put the book down and read it in a couple of days. It is well written and moves on at a pace and was twisty and turny. There were a few sections which were a bit wordy but on the whole was a page turner.
