Wow this book was so much more than I was expecting! The writing is wonderful, so atmospheric.

The book is written from the point of view of Ada, a teenager who feels she should have a more elevated place in the world than she does.

Ada is given the opportunity to have a “grand tour” type gap year experience and grabs it with both hands. Ada takes every opportunity she can to bind herself to the group and move herself up in the world. Little does she know that this will end in tragedy.

The book is so cleverly written, I had guessed a part of the solution fairly early on but that was in no way the whole solution.

The characters are brilliant and awful at the same time. You are left constantly questioning everyone’s motives, who is the real bad guy and who is just trying to make friends and get by?

A wonderfully dark and chilling read that I will remember for a while.
