I loved the concept of this book and found the underpinning theory really thought provoking however unfortunately the book just didn't live up to expectations.
One of the most important aspects for a brilliant story is to build a relationship with at least one of the characters however this just failed to happen. I found the character descriptions rushed and almost an afterthought, meaning there was nothing likeable or intriguing about them.
I also felt that the story failed to link the history and artistry of Italy to the story. For a novel which is underpinned by classical art there is little if any reference to the beauty that is Venice, Florence etc. I got the impression classics were sporadically thrown into the story as a weak link to the art culture in opposed to being completely engulfed by this.
It's a real shame as the concept was amazing but I finished the book feeling disappointed.
