The Favour is Laura Vaughans first adult novel, having previously written for young adults. It tells the story of Ada, a young and socially ambitious girl who is determined to ingratiate herself into the upper echelons of society where she feels she belongs. The only difficulty is how to achieve this. Her godmother steps in unexpectedly and partially funds an exclusive tour of Italy with other late teens, mostly from the great and good. Ada is hobnobbing with those she feels she should belong with, but things take unexpected turns and a series of unfortunate events unfold! Ada is not the most likeable of characters but she is absolutely not the worst of the teens on the tour. This is a gripping story of social climbing gone awry! I enjoyed reading it but perhaps it isn't so far removed from the YA genre as it might be. It is well written and I think will do well
