I hated the characters

To begin with I was intrigued about Ada, her home, her father and what would evolve in her life. As she takes on her journey to Italy to develop herself I wanted to be alongside her. However, the storyline ebbed as I really didn’t care much about any of the characters, and it was the detail of the art work and tour of Italy that I enjoyed more! At times I almost wanted this book to be non-fiction; so that it would include images of the art and architecture. Then, I too could gaze and absorb the knowledge on offer to the dilettante group without any involvement of the characters.
I was pleased when I finished the book as I felt the journey had been memorable and perhaps one I would take again to see all the layers on offer to the reader. I will give this book to a friend and would enjoy including with it a well chosen postcard painting for them to use as a bookmark.
