Why do publishers insist on making it known that there is a twist in the plot of a book? In the case of The Favour, I knew there was a twist and therfore spent the whole book trying to work out what it was. I'll say it's not as dramatic as I was imagining, which I guess adds to the plausibility of this book. I say this because I'd just finished 'Social Creature' by Tara Isabella Burton which has a very similar vibe and plot. However, I couldn't stand any of the characters in 'Social Creature' and the plot was incredibly over the top. I loved how The Favour was a tale of girl, Ada, with a desire for a lifestyle and social circle outside her grasp. However after a study trip to Italy, (in which the scenery and art are wonderfully described by the author) something happens that binds Ada to the group of wealthy teenagers also on the trip. It isn't a strong bond and the book goes on to show how desperate Ada will become to maintain her new life. Some people have said the talk of art and architecture was too much, but to be honest I loved it. If you are a fan of Sarah Dunnant's Renaissance set books, I'd say The Favour is your perfect modern day read.
