I loved the adventure that The Favour took me on to Italy, somewhere I was supposed to be visiting when the pandemic started, and hope to get the chance to go to in the future.
The idea that a girl from a simple low income hardworking family can get the opportunity thanks to a generous godmother to mix on an educational trip with a group of people who under normal circumstances she would probably never meet captivated me. The imagery of the places visited and the art seen I found fascinating.
The trip did not turn out quite as planned and therefore the protagonist of the book, Ada, remained bound to the group of wealthy teenagers for years to come keeping the secrets of the past hidden and the book depicted how desperate she became to hold on to the group and maintain her new life, getting invited to parties and events that they all attended.
The twists in the story were unexpected and kept my interest to the very end.
