When I first read the first look, I was not necessarily hooked in the story. So when I won the book via @readersfirst, I was not too excited to read it. The story is not my usual genre. It was really hard to get into the story through Ada. She feels entitled to a life she no longer has hold on, wanting to carry the legacy left by her step-father. She does everything she can to fit in but she fails.
There aren't any likeable character, except for her Godmother.
When she goes to that gap year trip in Italy, all the students were hard to empathise with, no one showed a crumb of human niceness. They were all unlikeable, entitled and selfish.
By the end no one has changed, everyone stuck where they were when they were first introduced.
The tutors are hard to look up as adults they can trust and get along with.
Additionally I felt it was actually quite poorly written, very simple and it doesn't go in too much detail about anything. It's just telling us instead of showing us
The ending was unexpected, quite unusual from other books.
