I thought this was an excellent read, what a debut! Having spent many a happy holiday in Italy I thought Laura’s descriptions of the country were spot on.
Her descriptions were so creative that I could I could imagine walking through the narrow, dusty streets, hear and see the sights, sounds and smells and enjoy the beautiful Italian architecture.
The book is a slow starter but definitely worth sticking with it.
It tells the tale of Ada, who’s grown up in a large house in Wales. Unfortunately her step father dies, consequently Ada and her mum have to move to something much smaller and less grand in London. Ada struggles with London life and is therefore rather thrilled when her godmother offers to substantially fund a ‘grand tour’ of Italy.
Unfortunately Ada doesn’t have much self confidence and sadly, is prepared to go to any lengths to ‘fit in’.
I thought this was a well constructed book and would make a really good book club read.
