The characters developed ok, establishing the flat sharers. A female hobbyist Tiffy and a male nurse Leon. It’s written ok, and the dialogue flows well enough for Tiffy, not so well for Leon.

The style switches between the perspective of Tiffy who is seeking a flat, and Leon who wants to timeshare his flat. It’s based on a flimsy premise of Leon working nights and only needing the flat to sleep (0900-1700). Tiffy occupying the flat the rest of the time. From a shift working perspective I can see how this would fail, and this could bring some interesting interactions and conflicts. Tiffy will probably find a naked grubby Leon in her bed at some point. I liked the way Leon’s shifts overran, very much like in the understaffed NHS.

When ever there is speech in Leon’s section the author does away with the speech marks, which I assume was to differentiate the characters, I found it confusing and wasn’t sure when Leon was thinking something and saying it.

It could be a good read and I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt on the rating, but I don’t think it’s one I want to read. Mainly because the story didn’t grip enough, and the exciting star of the show - shift work - didn’t establish itself as a theme.
