Knocked it out of the park!

I was interested in this book, yet it sat on my bookshelf for over a year (which isn't that bad when I remember I have books dating back to 2016, but let's not talk about that right now.). I just thought it would be another generic book that would be okay, nothing special.

Boy was I wrong. This book knocked my expectations right out of the park. I found myself thoroughly enjoying it, I was so excited listening to the audiobook and I felt like the voice actors were perfect for the characters. It was such an enjoyable read!

I loved how this book featured an abusive boyfriend that wasn't physical with his abuse, as its verbal abuse isn't a commonly talked about subject. It's not something books are written about, the authors tend to just add that in as a bit of extra taboo, but to feature an abuser who wasn't physical was amazing. It was an amazing portrayal of a different, less mentioned yet still very important and dangerous, a form of abuse.

The way we got to see Tiffy slowly go from "Huh, I thought I donated that..." to realising that she was being gaslit and mentally and verbally abused was so fantastic. It just felt amazing.

I wasn't super happy with the ending, as I felt it was a little rushed. And I worry that if I hadn't had listened to the audiobook it wouldn't have been anywhere as near as exciting, but I enjoyed the format I read it in. So four stars!

EDIT:

I haven't stopped thinking about this book and The Switch by Beth O'Leary. She became my favourite author, not only of 2021, but of all time, and so I've upped the rating to five stars because wow, if this book hasn't stayed with me!
