I know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover (but really, who doesn't) but I was intrigued by this book as soon as I saw it.
At the start of the synopsis I thought of The Night Circus, but reading on it looks like the book will take a darker turn beyond fantasy and into a realm of subterfuge and danger.
I am a big fan of historical fiction, but this period of American history is not one I know a huge amount about (the only book I have read set anywhere near this time is Andrew Taylor's Scent of Death).
The Floating Theatre looks like it would be a great introduction to this tumultuous era and the premise is one that really appeals to me.
