I am overall happy with the story, I only got to read the sample pages but my interest is certainly peaked.
The book got straight into the story, hinting at what was to come while still narrating the present.
It introduced the characters well and efficiently. You have the protagonist, May, the quiet and demure seamstress cousin to the vain Comfort, who are both travelling in search of more stage work.
It was interesting to read the thought process of May during the sinking. It does mention earlier that she seems to be not as in tune as everyone else.
During the disaster, she is rather calm and collected, she know what she needs to do and the detail about how she managed to swim with Guliua.
Plus the back story was definitely interesting. It gave a brief insight into the characters life and a possible explanation for why she's socially awkward.
