I recieved this book as part of my subscription to a box of stories.
I am not a big fan of historical fiction but this i felt did not try to hard to be historical.
The book starts set aboard a steamer and them boom an unexpected event happens and i was left thinking bliney this got dark quick.
Once equilibrium is somewhat restored the tale goes on and not much happens. I mean obviously the story goes on but no notable events. It all felt pointless.
We are soon introduced to the floating theatre and its characters, you become aware of the slavery divide between the north and south of the river.
The little tidbits lead to a climax which comes and goes over the final chapets of the book.
The suspense was all there at the end,but upon finishibg the book i was left feeling like a good half of the book had been pointless.
