Two different books in one
A brilliant first half about a young woman who works for family having to forge her own way when her circumstances change followed by a fast paced but not as interesting second section which covers the fear and frustration that people working the Underground Railroad must have felt.
I liked Hugo and would love to have more of his story fleshed out, some of the other characters were two dimensional. The language of the book was flowery and painted wonderful pictures but the fast end left me feeling like I'd missed something. This seemed like two different books one I would give 5 stars to the other 1 so average is 3 stars.
