Although this book got off to a good start and was well written I found it a bit slow in the middle. The opening pages describe a gruesome murder and it introduces the characters well. However I ended up feeling no empathy for any of the characters and even found some irritating. The book was less than 300 pages and I thought I would race through it but unfortunately it just didn’t hold my attention. There is way too much information about caligraphy and not enough mystery. I thought the threats added a little bit of interest to the plot but not enough to keep the plot face paced and interesting. The ending was quite clever but had I concentrated on the story properly I would probably have found it very predictable. For me The Forgers was too slow and after the opening chapter, I am sorry to say I found it boring and more of a chore to read to the end rather than being the enjoyable murder mystery I was expecting.
