I was so excited to read this book, a thriller surrounding by ancient manuscripts and book collectors but somehow, it all fell a bit flat for me.

The story starts off brilliant, a collector of rare and ancient books is found in his house with his hands cut off. The killer didn't leave any evidence of his identity and now we are left with the mystery of who and why.

This is an easy and enjoyable read but I wasn't on the edge of my seat desperate to keep the pages turning. For me, the plot and the characters were just ok, what I really found interesting was the world of the book collectors. It was interesting to read about how forgeries were made and the years of practice it took to make sure the bookshops and collectors were convinced the forgeries were the real deal.

All in all, a pretty decent read but I wouldn't expect to be caught up in a murder mystery.
