I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy this book, but at the same time I can’t say I was rushing to pick it back up once I’d put it down. When I read the blurb of the book I was really intrigued and believed due to it being about books (which I love) and a murder mystery thrown in I thought it would be right up my street but I think it focused a little too much on the rare book world and the art of forgery and a lot less on the murder mystery side of things.
It was very well written, and I can clearly see the author either knew his stuff or did a lot of research to go into it but I really feel like the balance of the mystery element to information could have been done a little better.
Due to this it felt like the twist was thrown in at the end a little so all of a sudden it was over. I liked some of the characters but must admit not the main character, I thought he was quite sleazy and slimy or that’s how it came across so I felt it was very hard to feel sorry for him with everything that was happening, or maybe that’s what it was meant to do! I do appreciate the writing though it was written well, just not for me.
