This is such a great premise (and what a brilliant opening line!), and intriguing basis of a plot but it's ultimately let down by poor characterisation so I felt no connection to the narrator, other characters were one-dimensional and and as such interaction between them seemed forced (No matter how many times he said he loved his girlfriend/wife or remarked on her beauty I never believed it for a second the delivery was so static)

This was originally published in 2014 so I presume this is a reissue to coincide with the release of it's follow up which is out early next year in the U.S. On the basis of this I wouldn't be in a rush to read that one.

Wish I could have rated this higher because it was an interesting idea - made me wonder if some inspiration was taken from The Goldfinch or Can You Ever Forgive Me? Either way this falls short which is a great pity.
