At only 240 pages, I expected this to be a really quick read for me... How wrong I was. I felt like it took me forever to read, mainly because I found it quite dull and therefore struggled to continue reading it for a longer period of time.

When I read the opening pages, I thought this was going to be an amazing murder mystery set in the rare book world. It was, to an extent. The story follows the lead character and his girlfriend/wife over a period of time from her brother being murdered to them moving to Ireland, having a baby and moving back again. The author never reveals the murderer until the very end, I was praying that it wouldn't go down the path I thought it... but it did. It just didn't fit for me, it felt unimaginative and rushed. That was such a shame, mainly because the author has such a beautiful way with words that I genuinely thought that he would choose a much more imaginative angle to go with. One of my favourite parts of the book is where the character refers to lies as flowers that come into bloom when you die.

The lead character is also stalked throughout the book with many threats sent to him that are never actually fulfilled or acted upon. This made for incredibly boring reading. The concept of the book was so promising, but it just failed to captivate me the way I had hoped.
