The writing in the short sample I read was beautiful, and it really takes you to the time and the place. The author describes the settings really well, and it felt quite atmospheric as I was reading, like I was there with the character as she waited with the others.
From first appearances this is a story of a mother who is forced to give her child up to the Foundling, where unwanted babies are taken in and taught skills for later life. It is set in eighteenth century London.
I really enjoyed the sample. I sympathised with the character and her situation, and really would love to know more. The cover is also really beautiful.
