I really enjoyed this First Impression. This isn't the first novel I have read that deals with the Foundling Hospitals, although that one was set amongst Silk Weavers rather than Fishmongers. I was relieved that the details matched, I always have a worry that research will have failed and the Workhouse will be conflated with the Foundling Hospital.
Clara's voice is clear and gives a good sense of the character and her sheer determination just to get through each day as best as she can. From silent transactions with Martha to banter with a man who is no better than he should be.
Definitely looking forward to reading more of this book.
