I had already read 'The Familiars' and I loved it! So I was very excited for this novel! Her writing style is always emotive and sophisticated, and you really feel for the characters and their struggles. Bess is in a situation that many would have found themselves in. Overall, a brilliant first impression, with a Dickensian quality to it!
