love historical fiction and this was a much anticipated read, especially since it was based around The Foundling Hospital in London. Ever since reading about the hospital in another book, I’ve been both intrigued and saddened by the whole concept of the acceptance of babies on the basis of a lottery and the picking of a particular coloured ball. If a desperate mother picks the right colour, and her child passes the medical, the hospital will accept her child, along with a token, whether it be a scrap of fabric or a small distinguishable item so that the child may be identified should the mother ever be in a position to reclaim the child at a future time. Love Stacey Halls and have been waiting for The Foundlings. It is an amazing story based around true events, shadowed in our history, that was screaming to be told.
It is a heartbreaking tale of desperation and despair and to think that this was actually happening time and time again. Parents would give up their babies because they were poor and did not have the means to feed their babies or because society frowned upon them. Stacey has bought this story to life!
The way Stacey is able to take true historical events and use them to tell a gripping fictional story of the people that lived in those times is amazing.
Loved The Familiars just as much and cannot wait to see what this author has in store.
