I was so excited to read this book but sadly it just wasn’t up to the hype.
The book was a slow burned that never really hit a climax and left me pretty underwhelmed.
The character building and scene setting was great. You grew to feel sympathy towards each of the characters for different reasons and also found love for each of them.
The stark contrast between the living conditions for the lead characters and how this played a role in the relationship with the daughter was such an important part of the story line. It was also interesting to see how the child reacted when living in both houses. There was such a different in how she treated her biological mother when she was removed from her home that it tugged on the heart starting. That once unending love slowly turned to resentment and changed the whole tone of the book.
