I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book and absolutely loved everything about it, from the beautiful cover and endpapers to the wonderfully written story within. I enjoy reading historical novels and have always found the Georgian period particularly interesting. The story of Bess Bright and the aftermath of her leaving her new born daughter at the Foundling hospital is enthralling, and the contrast between Bess's life and that of the wealthy but reclusive Mrs Callard really draws you in. The writing is lyrical and I felt truly immersed in life in Georgian London. The characters are well rounded and I liked the way the story unfolds, switching between the viewpoints of the two women. I can't wait to read more by this author.
