I am sitting here in the early hours of the morning writing this review and the reason for this is that I have just gobbled up this brilliant book!
I couldn’t put it down before I knew where the child Charlotte would live and with whom!
I enjoyed Stacey’s first novel The Familiars’ but The Foundling’ is so much better with rich prose, brilliant description and a story which keeps the reader interested and engaged until the last page!
Two women mother a child...one with love and one with material wealth. The reader is continually torn by wanting the child to be with the natural mother who has lived a life of deprivation, yet been resourceful. But when Bess Bright abducts her child and takes her to live in squalor, the reader wonders whether Charlotte will be better off living in luxurious surroundings with much less affection and love.
There are twists, turns, deviousness, betrayal and the reader’s emotions are skilfully manipulated; but the end is a happy compromise and the reader can feel assured that all will be well and love conquers all.

A brilliant read! I loved it!
