Bess has to leave her illegitimate daughter, Clara, at the Foundling Hospital, when she is a day old, in the hope that she can reclaim her later. After reading The Familiars I instantly rushed to buy the second book from Stacey Halls. It sat on my shelf for months because I was worried it wouldn't live up to my high expectations; i was wrong! I thought this book was better!! I was hooked from page one and I just could not stop reading, I read it in a day!!
