Exquisite historical fiction
The Foundling is yet another exquisite novel from Stacey Halls. Rich in period detail and description, the compelling writing evokes such a strong sense of time and place; it swept me up and into Bess and Alexandra's contrasting lives, captivating me with every turn of the page. The novel is pure escapism; I was able to imagine myself in the era, living alongside the characters, experiencing the same sights, sounds and smells, as I watched the story unfold. I loved how the characters intertwined and interacted with each other, and how the thoughtfully crafted secondary characters added depth and diversity to the story. I don't normally read historical fiction but I thoroughly enjoyed losing myself in this gorgeous book.
