This was an unusual read for me as it was set in 1754 in the poorest parts of London but the story was engaging from the first paragraph. Although you are introduced to the main character Bess Bright at the very beginning when she is giving her baby away you immediately feel empathy towards her and her character is so engaging in the book.
When there is a twist and Bess meets her daughter you feel like the two different worlds are going to collide but you cant help but like Bess and wish her the best. I read this book in under 4 days as I couldnt put it down and would recommend it to anyone to read. Despite being set in 1754 it didnt hinder the storyline it just meant the author set the scenes perfectly and her descriptions brought Old London to life
