This is a fantastic book which had me hooked from the very beginning. Such a heart wrenching story of a poor child being separated from her mother, who hoped for them to one day be reunited, only to realise that someone took Clara the day after she was put in the Foundling. A touching story of a parents love and the lengths they go to for their children.

I love the historical setting and backdrop to this story. I am a history PhD student who studies institutional care in the nineteenth century and it is heartbreaking to know that this was actually a reality for people. The Foundling hospital is a real place where many children were abandoned. The details are well-researched, accurate and well applied to the story. This novel is a fantastic historical fiction that will deliver to any reader seeking a good story with solid historical information. I highly recommend this read. You won't be disappointed. The author has done a fabulous job
