The foundling was a lovely read. Bess is hardworking, and only wants one thing in life, to get her daughter Clara back from the foundling hospital. Unfortunately, when bess returns to reunite with her daughter she finds out the worse news for any mother, that her daughter has already been reclaimed. Set in 1754 London, Stacey Hall describes the setting very well. I felt part of the era following Bess through each parts of the book, imagining exactly what each building, street and character were like.

Through the book we learn to sympathise with both characters, who only want what is best for Clara. The book was a very easy read and I managed to get through it in just a couple of days. This book has made me want to read 'The Familiars' by Stacey Hall and see if this one gives off the same comforting and immersive experience that this book did.
