Georgian London and the different social classes that inhabit it are vividly bought to life in Hall's tale of two very different young women with limited choices over there own lives.

It is a tale of motherhood, daughters, class and love. I could not put it down and am now eager to visit the Foundling Museum, where the fictional Bess Bright leaves her hours old daughter in the hope she'll be looked after until she can afford to collect her. Upon returning years later Bess is horrified to learn that baby Clara has already been collected by someone claiming to be her.

Alexandra a wealthy young widow only leaves her home to attend the chapel in the Foundling Hospital accompanied by her young daughter, when Bess becomes her nursemaid both women's lives are turned upside down as their past threatens to destroy everything.

A well written, enjoyable novel with a beautiful cover.
