I am a new reader to historical fiction. I never thought this was a genre I would read but after reading The Familiars and now The Foundling I am hooked! Firstly the beautiful covers of this book drew me in. I own both the hardback and paperbacks as they are gorgeous. The book flowed beautifully, the writing is clever and a steady plot kept me reading on. You are instantly drawn to the era, it is descriptive and detailed and I learnt a lot from this book. Based on true events the author really brings this to life. It really makes you think, at times the story was heartbreaking as you are drawn into that time when poor women had to give up their babies. Just heartbreaking. Absolutely loved this book and cannt wait for more from this author.
