This book, set in 1754, follows the story of Bess Bright who leaves her illegitimate daughter Clara at the Foundling Hospital in London to be cared for until she is able to look after her properly. Six years later, she returns to collect her and is told that she has already been taken by someone else claiming to be her. She then sets out to find out who has taken her, and why.
I really enjoyed reading this book, it was so well written and provides good scenery as a historical fiction story. You can really picture the characters and their surrounding as you are reading the book! The topic of the story is very intriguing and makes you want to read on to find out the reason why someone would claim Bess' daughter as their own. I also loved how the perspectives change between characters! This was another amazing book by Stacey Halls and I can't wait for her new one this summer!
