This was such a brilliant story, I throughly enjoyed it.
When pregnant Bess gives up her baby to the Foundling hospital she has every intention of claiming her precious child back.
But when she finally earns enough money to go and collect her she is distraught to find out that someone has been there before her and the person who took her was actually Bess!
Bess cannot get over this. And dedicates herself to solving this mystery of what happened to her child.
But is it better to dig for the truth or to let sleeping dogs lie?
This was such a clever story with many plot twists and drama.
The characters were both believable and also likeable leaving a reader easily able to empathise and envisage their situation.
What a wonderful historical novel.
