London, 1747. Bess Bright brings her newborn daughter to the Foundling hospital with intention of coming back in six years and to reclaim her child.
As promised six years later Bess returns to the hospital but she found out that her daughter was taking away.
It’s an excellent atmospheric novel about a mother’s search for her child.
The characters have depth and complexity, there are several interesting twists in the novel. I like the process of uncovering the past of the main characters and the impact on their lives.

Two different worlds. One is working London where Bess from. And the other is west London where we meet the second character Alexandra. These women are from different world but their life’s crossed.

I rated this book 4 because the final is too unrealistic, too “Hollywood happy end”. After all hardships, it was absolutely unexpected.
