I really loved this book.
Bess is poor and when she gives birth to a daughter, she can't afford to look after her so leaves her in the care of the Foundling Hospital. This is a place you can leave your children and then come back for them when your life is more stable.
After 6 years, Bess goes back to the Foundling Hospital to get her baby girl back. But she is no longer there, as someone else as already gone in and claimed her.
She finds out who as got her daughter now but as no idea why she has claimed her baby and how. But Bess is determined to get her back.
I can't really go into too much detail without giving things away. I listened to this on audio and really love the voice of Bess. I really enjoyed this book and really can't wait to read The Familiars and and her latest Mrs England also by this author Stacey Halls.
