This is not my usual kind of read, but I thoroughly enjoyed the preview for it so was looking forward to the rest of the book.
Some of the leaps in the story were a little confusing as it wasn't clear how one, at least, action happened or whether it was just a serendipitous consequence of Bess' meeting with Dr Mead at the Foundling hospital after she discovered that her daughter had already been claimed by someone passing themselves off as Bess herself.
Having got the job as nursemaid to Charlotte/Clara, the story is quite lovely as they get to know and love each other.
Through various badly planned actions and the theft of her money, Bess and her daughter find themselves in fairly desperate straits and it's a little unbelievable that Charlotte would have adapted quite as easily, but with help from friends things begin to go well.
I found the ending a bit too tidy and unfeasible but overall, this is a lovely book, Sort of Dickens lite but very enjoyable.
