After falling in love with "The Familiars", I waited anxiously to read Stacey Halls's next book. It was worth the wait.
The magic of her writing has once again captured a time period in full, absorbing you entirely, and letting the words take between the locations, the sensory details capturing you page after page. The characters surprise you in that wonderful way new friends do, and then become those friends; people you feel you know, and can read, and love.
The quality of the writing cannot be disputed and there is no doubt in my mind that Halls is going to become increasingly well known for her historical fiction. On top of that, the research is simply breathtaking, giving you absolute certainty that no one else could have written this book.
I was gripped from the first page to the last, and only put it down when I really had to. It is just such a fantastic read.
