Being a newbie to the genre of sagas, I didn't know much about what to expect from this book as I only really had some basic knowledge of society during WWII. As a whole, I did very much enjoy this read but found both pros and cons with it.

As I tend to be a bit of an impatient reader, I found that some chapters were a little filler-like and that the same thing, or a few similar things, tended to happen multiple times within some of the chapters throughout the book.

Although knowing that this would be the case when this book was first added to this website, I enjoyed the ending to this book a little less due to the title given away the ending: although, I do realise that as you progress through the book, you could have worked it out anyway.

Despite these cons, the book was a homely and satisfying read to follow which provided closure at the end for the main character, April, who I found very easy to grasp as a character and to support through both her successes and her misgivings.
