When I first started reading the book, I wasn't fully interested in it and could easily put it down for days on end without even wanting to pick it up. But as I got more into the book it suddenly got more interesting, April having moved to Cornwall to try find any living relatives, opened up her life for adventures. I love how she reacted in times of sadness, she put her job and friends first without even dwelling on everything going wrong in her life. She showed sympathy to those that had hurt her and didn't try stoop to their level. Major Crawford Dunbar, comes into her life quite suddenly, sweeps her off her feet from the get go. It's such a powerful love story that it's hard not to get swept up in the progress. This book also writes about the segregation of colour back in the day, I found it beautiful that the women didn't care what the skin of a mans colour was, they simply treat them as they would a white man. Which in this age we should all be like.
