I loved this book. Found this emotional from the start, in the midst of WWII and all the stories going on in the background this is heartwarming story of love against odds and challenges. April is a wonderful character and has had a fair few challenges, the first losing her parents. Then being brave enough to live away and find her family. This book was brilliantly written and tackles subjects that we take for granted, Black and whites not being able to mix, be in the same building or even marry, yet they are fine to fight for our country and other countries. I found Bess a challenge, I got annoyed with her and even shouted at the book a few times, she came across heartless and mean but then the reasons came out. Mrs Teagan is a lovely lady and a strong character. This story flowed well and it was a shame it finished but at least all the loose ends were all finished.
